It is with heavy hearts that we learn of the passing of longtime Supermodified crew member and former driver, John Petty, of Pulaski. John's dedication to the Speedway spanned decades. John was the first driver for Kerfien Racing, driving their No. 93, and also ran a handful of races in the 70's, when he purchased a former Jim Muldoon car. His journey continued as an official with ISMA. He was a push truck driver for 10 years, and of course a dedicated crew member for various teams, having crewed for different car owners starting at age 14. From Steve Miller's 'Sweet 16' to Dean Hoag's No. 2 Troyer, Petty played a crucial role in the success of numerous drivers including Bob Goutermout, Buddy Diehl, Bob Bond, Doug Didero, Terry and Travis Bartlett, Jamie Letcher, Kelly Miller, Johnny Benson Jr, Troy Halsey, and others. Never once missing an International Classic, John was a winning crew member for many of these competitors, working tirelessly on cars until 2010. His commitment and love for Oswego Speedway was unwavering. Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the Petty Family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, John.
