Ron Lux

Buffalo, NY
03.Aug.1937 - 16.July.1966

Ron Lux was a resident of Buffalo, New York and was employed by Casey Trucking. In 1963,he drove under the pseudonym of Bucky Buckholtz, and also, in 1965, as Bob Hodgson, a crew member on the Purdy team. He was trying to avoid suspension from USAC, which at the time did not permit their drivers to run in non-USAC events.

Lux also did some URC racing. This is from either a URC or Flemington publication dated December, 1964. Ron gave URC legend Earl Halaquist all he could handle.

Lux finally revealed his true identity after his fourth straight Oswego Speedway feature win, deciding to put USAC on hold during this terrific season. Ron went on to win the 1965 Supermodified points championship at Oswego Speedway by a wide margin, driving the famous Purdy deuce, winning 5 features in a row during one stretch and 12 overall for the season. This was a new machine for the '65 season and this car would become a legend in it's own right, winning 25 features with four different drivers.

Ron won the Orange County Eastern States 100 dirt Modified race in 1965, beating the finest competition that division had to offer. He also set fast time for the first asphalt Langhorne National Open modified (Race of Champions) event in 1965. He died in a USAC sprinter at Tulsa, OK in July of 1966.
